  • Azerbaijan
  • Bangladesh
  • Cameroon
  • Canada
  • China
  • Cuba
  • Djibouti
  • Germany
  • Jordan
  • Malaysia
  • Mauritius
  • Mexico
  • Nigeria
  • Russian Federation
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Senegal

Download the timetable for the 4th session, or click here for more information on the UPR in general.

Among the expected highlights of the upcoming session are the reviews of two permanent members of the Security Council - China and the Russian Federation. China was reviewed recently in November 2008 by the Committee against Torture (see ISHR's report). The atmosphere during the CAT review was at times tense; the delegation addressed the Committee’s concerns in a dismissive manner, and often ignored specific questions and issues. It will be interesting to see if China's approach is different in an intergovernmental setting.

Also of note is the fact that Germany will be reviewed simultaneously by the UPR Working Group and the Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) on Monday, 2 February 2009.

ISHR will follow the examination of all 16 States by the Working Group, and will publish brief updates on this website. Please write to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to receive UPR updates by e-mail.
